About Me

My Photographic Profile

My interest in photography started when at about ten years old, I was given a Kodak Brownie 127 as a birthday present. (I still have the camera and some of the first images taken with it) So at this early age I can safely say I got the ‘bug’ and have taken pictures ever since. I began taking a serious interest in photography many years ago when I embarked on a two year part time City & Guilds 9231 course at the local Art College where I gained LRPS, the experience gave me so much enjoyment I built myself a makeshift darkroom and spent the next few years specialising and learning to work with monochrome. By 1992 after a serious illness, I felt in need of inspiration and knowledge to get me back on my way to recovery, so I joined a full time Fine Arts access course (Specific photographic courses were not available at that intermediary level) covering Ceramics, Life Drawing, Painting, Print Making, Textiles, Graphic Design and of course, Photography. After completing this course I was put forward for a placement at Bradford University to study Communication Photography, Art History and Computer graphics, on a full time basis with the aim of achieving HND and a BA(Hons) degree, which I completed successfully in July 2002, further studies took me into Art History with the hope of achieving a MA/Phd which I was still working on until recently, with a great sense of achievement. I made a member of the Royal Photographic Society, where I was awarded their ARPS distinction of competence at a ceremony in Bassenthwaite Lake in the Lake district of Cumbria. After all the work I have put in to my photography, both practical and academically I am still and always will be learning something new about it and it’s many facets. My main interest in photography lies in travel and landscape both film and digital, producing mono images in the traditional way, although in recent years I have been working with colour and Mono, with the advent of the digital experience, I turned to the computer and Nikon’s Capture NX, Capture NXD and Photoshop for the bits Nikon do not cover quite as good if at all, scanning negatives and, producing images for use with web design, another of my many interests and activities. I now work almost exclusively with NIKON cameras and software on Apple Macintosh computer equipment.
